This morning, I returned to the abandoned railway at Teban. Only Smoker remains, Emo-face, Robot, and Wondergirl are gone. They are replaced by new graffiti.
Should have been 'indie folk and foul, or fool'. Maybe I will paint a picture of this but change the text.
I went over to another side and saw them.
This is my favourite shot of the morning despite it being one of the least colorful pictures -- a muddy path on one side and a stone path on the other.
Only Smoker remains, Emo-face, Robot, and Wondergirl are gone.
ReplyDeleteHuh! I was actually planning to visit the tunnel to record those characters on video. (Luckily, the movie 'Red Dragonfly' captured the tunnel graffiti for posterity.)
The drawings hold a sentimental value for me. Back in Nov 09 (ie. 2 months after I came upon the graffiti in the tunnel), I montaged photos of Emo-face, Robot, Mustache-Clayote & some of the colourful graffiti phrases into a "vertical" tunnel-gallery on a birthday postcard for a dear friend.
I assume the past drawings were erased by the artists themselves. Is it the norm in the graffiti art circle to paint over one's own satisfactorily-completed work (not drafts)? I haven't thought of graffiti art as transient (... disregarding whitewashing actions by unappreciative authorities). Now, graffiti art & sandcastle building meet for the first time in my mind.
I am not sure about graffiti artists.
ReplyDeleteI don't know this person, but you might find the answers to your question here: http://www.thekillergerbil.blogspot.com/
