Painting of Abandoned Tunnel at Teban (2010 - 2011)

Working on this painting is a humbling experience. I am not the "inspired artist" or "master painter" I imagined myself to be after all.

The photograph looks better than the actual work.

The painting is done using acrylics on Moleskine notebook paper. The actual work is 25.5 by 19.5 cm, slightly smaller than A4. There is a certain Van-Gogh-ish awkwardness and clumsiness to it.

I have chosen the graffiti-filled wall as the subject because graffiti is all about youth and rebellion. I want my art to be about youth and rebellion.

Quoting from Dolores O'Riordan Special Thanks from "Are You Listening" album

"I want to thank you for being so patient with me because a true artist has to breathe...I would like to apologise for my lack of contact, and how I have isolated myself. But these are the only means where upon I can grow. I respect you and I love you, and I hope I will not let you down."

Some/Things Issue 3

Quote from Brett Anderson:

"The last two albums I made have been self funded and complete commercial suicide. The first of these featured just myself and a cello player, but I made it because I had to. I was driven and poked and nagged by something to do it despite all logical misgivings. That, for me, is the true spirit of rock and roll, not dressing up like John Lennon and pretending it's 1967."

I can totally identify with him. My second book should be out by March 2011. Continue to watch this space.

Sorrowful World -- The writings (No. 1)

(This is a series of writings on my upcoming collection of drawings. These writings are not included in the book.)

Sorrowful World.

Sorrowful World is not about depression.
Sorrowful World is not about critical illnesses.
Sorrowful World is not about natural disasters or plane crashes.
Sorrowful World is not about poverty and hunger.
Sorrowful World is not about terrorism or political unrest.
Sorrowful World is not about economic downturn.

Sorrowful World is about impermanence.
Sorrowful World is about seeing beauty and poetry in ordinary things.
